Icare HOME is a tonometer that is designed for patients to use themselves. It’s a small device, so it’s easy for the patients to carry. Another very important feature is that it has to be safe. Because it’s a rebound tonometer, it doesn’t require anesthetics. So it’s safe for the patients. We have been using it for a few years now – and have not had any problems with discomfort or any damages to the cornea. I use the ICare HOME for difficult cases. For example if the patient has worsening in the vision field – and the IOP level is quite low. I try to figure out if there’s any IOP peaks outside office hours. To measure the IOP once a day is not enough. Maybe sometimes we need to measure IOP several times a day and in several days. Patients can be sceptical before using it, – because it’s the first time they will measure their IOP themselves. But then they see the device and see how to handle it and try it themselves, – they are very pleased usually and surprised that it went smoothly. ICare HOME gives us important information to take care of the glaucoma patients. It’s an easy tool to use for the patients and even for the healthcare. I recommend the use of ICare HOME because it is a patient-friendly device, – we can get reliable results of IOP measurements – and the patients don’t need to come to the hospital to get IOP measurements.
