My name is Brian Kim, and I’m a retina
specialist. The reason why I went into medicine is very personal to me. My dad’s a physician and he was a physician in a small town so I
was used to seeing the relationship he would share with his patients, both in his
office and also out in the community. I saw how close those relationships were.
You know, kids have a lot heroes usually sports athletes and things like that. My
dad truly is my hero. He continues to be my hero. I think that in addition to
helping people I want to be a lot like my dad. My philosophy of care is pretty
straightforward: I think medicine is very complex and often times you lots of
decisions you have to make and you’re always concerned about making the right
decision for your patient because there are so many ways and you can so many things you can choose. When I look at my patients and I decide what I’m going to
do I look at them like they’re my mother, my sister, my brother, and I ask what I do
for that for that person that they were my mother, my brother, and my sister and
then decisions become a lot easier.
